Every Emini Trader I know has fantasized building their own Automated ATM Trading System or Strategy that will spit out wads of cash even as they sleep. I've built more than a few in my own head, committed quite a few to scratch pads, I've even written a few lines of code here and there. For me however, that's where it always stops. My lack of programming skills will never allow the fantasy to grow beyond the "thought up" stage. Now I have known quite a few Emini Traders, and even a few Forex Traders, who actually made it into the "start up" stage. What I don't know though, has anyone moved beyond development and actually started printing up cash on a daily basis. No? Why not? Certainly in theory it should work. We can program computers to do most everything else, so there's no obvious reason why we can't program them to trade for us. Right? I'm quite sure there must be traders out there somewhere with automated trading systems and strategies that are successful, but again, I just don't personally know any of them. In fact, allow me to take this opportunity to invite anyone who has moved into production with real money in real time, to come on the show and share your success with us. Now granted, there are more than a few traders I know, who just plain enjoy the act of trading. For them it's not a job, it's not work.. it's what they do.. and do well. Painters paint, Singers sing.. and Traders trade. Well, some traders trade, others agonize. For many, trading that knot in their stomach for a little robot that just hums along counting ones and zeroes while making regular deposits in their bank account has become more than a fantasy right? It's become a deranged version of salvation. Let's face it, we all "claim" to love trading, but when it's time to actually put on the trade, These could all be signs that you need to reasses your "love" of the markets. I'm not saying you shouldn't be trading, just suggesting you may have developed some unrealistic expectations or unhealthy attachments. I will be the first to admit, I work way too many hours. Obviously, I enjoy what I do, otherwise I wouldn't work so hard. But is it really work? I call it work, yet when I'm on a project or trading and things are clicking, it sure doesn't feel like a "job". After a greuling 18 hour shift, all I want to do is take a little nap so I can get back at it. This may actually be the flip side of the trader with the knot in his stomach. Perhaps we need a Corporate Shrink with group rates and a couch built for 2? Please feel free to use the comment section below if you are currently using an automated Trading system or strategy. So are you against automated trading systems? Or is is that you haven't found one that works? Have you actually tested any? When people talk about Forex Robots, is that the same thing as what you are writing about here?

I think Forex Robots are the same thing.
They are the same.
Some automated emini trading systems just send you an alert when there is a trade setup. Other ones acutally place the trade for you. Those ones scare me a little bit. I wish CFRN had one so I could try it. I'm not sure if the Forex Robot thing places the order or just alerts you. I dont know much about Forex yet, but if CFRN ever teaches it I will check it out. I asked Burt and he said we can place forex trade through dtpro.

I'm certainly not against Automated Trading Systems or Strategies. In fact, I spent a fair amount of time trying to build one because is seemed so do-able. The fact that I never created something I felt comfortable trading live in real time, I blame on my lack of coding skills. Michael and I each have our strengths and when it comes to writing code, he is the captain of that wheelhouse.
So, while I'm agnostic on automation, I just personally haven't traded or seen an Emini Futures Trading Automated System or Strategy that is profitable in real time. Again, it certainly seems doable for someone with the proper skill set, but since we don't see them trading on every street corner, there must be more to the story. I'm believing that along with a strict rule set (which the computer can follow better than any human), thought and decision making are also required, and while AI is a promising field, it has not trickled down to my Emini Chart as of yet, but I remain hopeful.

Yes a Forex Robot or "Expert Adviser" as they are often called, are the same thing as an Emini Automated Trading System or Strategy. Let me offer a word of caution here. While we don't see Emini Automated Systems trading on every corner, there does seem to be someone selling a Forex Robot or Expert Adviser on every other corner.
Again, there seems to be a fever pitch to these sales pages, but I don't see hard evidence to back up the claims. In fact, what I have heard a lot of, is companies springing up over night with a trove of "back tested data" which has been masterfully curve fitted to seduce even the most hardened skeptic. These systems are often sold with a 60 Day Money Back Guarantee. The supporting literature explains that draw downs may be significant, but based on the data set provided, the equity curve will prove itself within 60 days.
"Just look at the graphs and pie charts, it's all in the data Jack. Now give me that cow."
The unfortunate part of this story is that the company that sprang up overnight often disappears into the night around day 45. I'm not saying all Forex Robots and Expert Advisers are of this ilk and I would never want to tarnish the image of a legitimate company that stands behind their product. I'm just saying be careful.

A Forex Robot can do either. It can alert you, place the trade for you, even manage the trade. Just consider the caveat in the answer above. I don't know that we will ever offer a Forex Robot, but I do see us opening our doors and indicators to the Forex community at some point.
